I Want You Back (2022)

In this humorous romantic comedy, Charlie Day and Jenny Slate play two devastated strangers who meet by accident after getting rejected and come up with a wacky scheme to sabotage the other’s new relationship by infiltrating the other’s ex-life. partner’s The movie is silly, edgy, and propelled by the actors’ hilarious on-screen chemistry. Gina Rodriguez, Scott Eastwood, and Pete Davidson all have excellent supporting parts.

A Simple Favor (2018)

We’re not sure whether you’ve had a chance to see the funny and oddball experience that is A Simple Favor, but if you haven’t, there has never been a better opportunity to do so. It follows Stephanie, a single mother, as she becomes involved in a mystery involving her new friend Emily (Blake Lively), who mysteriously vanishes one day, and features an outstanding performance by Anna Kendrick. Without giving anything away, it is a film intended to defy simple classification as it bombards you with incest gags that turn out to be only the beginning. When you think you know what it’s going to be, it will suddenly change course and plunge even deeper into a dark absurdity that is both entertaining and silly.

Beast (2022)

If you haven’t yet seen the movie in which Idris Elba battles a lion, we’ll pardon you since we know you would have if you were aware that such a work of art existed. It excels at the fundamentals of what it has to give, playing a father who must defend his girls from an abnormally violent rogue cat that attacks them while they are on holiday in South Africa. The spectacle of Elba physically engaging in combat with the massive entity to decide who is the true apex predator is more important than the plot. It never makes fun of the camera and instead takes itself very seriously, which is almost refreshing in a world of so-so quirkiness. Although Beast doesn’t quite bite as hard as one would like and occasionally has some glaringly bad special effects, Elba’s fully devoted acting alone enhances the overall experience.

Somebody I Used to Know (2023)

In this romantic comedy starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, Brie plays a workaholic television producer who decides to move back to her hometown after experiencing a career setback. Her heroine reunites with her now-engaged first love in the movie, which is directed and co-written by Franco and Brie (Jay Ellis). Following their reunion, a chain of events occurs that forces everyone to reflect on who they are and what they truly want out of life and love.

The Best Man (1999)

The Best Man (1999)

Taye Diggs portrays a writer in this romantic comedy directed by Malcolm D. Lee whose next book is partially based on the love lives of his pals. Just before he is to be one of his friends’ best men, a leaked copy of the book causes the wedding—and the whole group’s relationship—to fall apart. The movie, which also starred Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, and Regina Hall, was so well-liked that it sparked a multi-film series.

Devil In a Blue Dress (1995)

Next, we go back in time to a Carl Franklin neo-noir that is still one of his movies that are well worth your time. Devil In A Blue Dress follows Easy Rawlins, a down-on-his-luck character played by Denzel Washington, as he travels across 1948 Los Angeles in pursuit of a missing woman. He does so out of desperation because he recently lost his job and needs a job, but he soon discovers that there is more to this profession than he initially thought. It is one of those movies that manages to be both a sendup and a razor-sharp dissection of the genre while yet being so rich in so many essential elements that you can’t help but get sucked in. Moreover, it features a scene-stealing performance by Don Cheadle as a character named Mouse enters the movie and quickly changes things up, elevating it somewhat beyond nearly all other current releases.

Halloween Ends (2022)

We are here to suggest that Halloween Ends is a fairly decent movie, which may be the most divisive statement on this list. Well, until we reach what turns out to be a satisfyingly gory conclusion, it isn’t even really about Michael Myers. But, the overall experience still has a lot of odd energy, which elevates it well beyond its predecessor and, to be honest, probably should have been the only sequel when this series was relaunched. It begins years after Myers once more unleashed his distinct brand of death and mayhem onto the world, and it focuses on how the evil he represents could go beyond just him. It’s gory and silly, and it’s one of those horror movies that know how important it is to take a risk and never look back, even though the murderer may be close behind you.

The King’s Speech (2010)

In this Oscar-winning movie, Colin Firth plays King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. The movie was a huge box office and critical success, and it also brought Firth his first Academy Award. The movie follows George VI’s hesitant ascent to the throne following his brother’s abdication and the unusual bond he had with the speech therapist he hired to help him overcome a crippling stammer. The film, which is fully deserved for all the plaudits it garnered, tells a very intimate narrative against the backdrop of the political drama of the time on the verge of war.

I’m Your Woman (2020)

In this grim criminal thriller set in the 1970s, Rachel Brosnahan plays Jean, the bored suburban spouse of dubious hustler Eddie (Bill Heck). One night, Eddie vanishes without a trace, and a chain of events ensues that takes Jean and their infant on the run from enigmatic bad guys brandishing guns. I’m Your Woman is a high-stakes criminal drama that is subtly drenched in ’70s style and features a piece of distinctive, period-appropriate music.

Argentina, 1985 (2022)

The circumstances leading up to 1985’s “Trial of the Juntas,” in which the perpetrators of Argentina’s last, violent civil-military dictatorship were tried, are examined in this much-praised historical drama that was published in 2022. The subsequent events led to the most well-known war crimes trial since the Nüremberg Trials and the first significant war crimes prosecution held in a civilian court. Argentina 1985, the nation’s submission for this year’s Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, also took home a Golden Globe Award on its way to becoming one of Argentina’s most renowned movies of all time.

Inside Man (2006)

Another mystery-solving film starring Denzel Washington with Spike Lee at the helm? Of course, we’re going to advise you to settle in and watch Inside Man. It occurs in the aftermath of a bank heist that turns into a hostage crisis and jumps back and forth in time. The crew behind it appears to be in over their heads and everything looks out of control, but as the layers are peeled back, a fantastic plan emerges that they just might be able to pull off. It is a tense and precise movie that proves, regardless of the genre he works in, that Lee is still one of the best American directors.

Do the Right Thing (1989)

Spike Lee’s 1989 thriller, which is frequently included in lists of the best films ever produced, takes place on one of the hottest days of the year in a Brooklyn neighborhood where racial animosity is at an all-time high. The drama of the movie revolves around Sal’s (Danny Aiello) Italian-American restaurant, where Lee’s character delivers pizzas across the neighborhood while negotiating the complex relationships that are present everywhere. Years after it was aired in theatres, the movie is still much praised and received two Academy Award nominations.

Serpico (1973)

In this biographical drama based on Peter Maas’ book of the same name, Al Pacino plays Frank Serpico, a real-life former member of the New York City Police Department. The movie follows Serpico’s attempts to bring attention to the widespread corruption within the city’s police force, only to have them disregarded. This atmosphere finally causes him to be shot, and he subsequently goes on to become one of law enforcement’s most well-known whistleblowers. Sidney Lumet’s 1973 picture received a lengthy list of honors, including a Golden Globe for Al Pacino’s iconic performance as the movie’s title honest officer.
